About Damietta Alliance
Ports & Logistics
Egypt

The Port of Damietta is one of the main ports in Egypt — close to the River Nile and minimal deviation from major shipping routes and the Suez Canal.

Damietta Alliance Container Terminals is a consortium of Hapag-Lloyd AG (Germany, anchor customer), EUROGATE Group (Germany) and Contship Italia (Italy) — starting operations of a state-of-the-art container terminal in early 2025.

The terminal handles the latest generation of container vessels — ship-to-shore gantry cranes with 25 rows across deck, deep-water berths at −18m CD, high-stacking yard equipment and efficient IT systems make it a new hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Executive summary

A greenfield SAP S/4HANA implementation for a just-established Egyptian entity. As SAP + AWS partner, Phoenix worked for months to convince the customer to deploy SAP S/4HANA on RISE + AWS.

Once decided, Phoenix implemented SAP RISE on AWS and connected all customer sites — building the AWS VPC, connecting to the RISE tenant, and hosting the customer website with high availability.

How Phoenix delivered

The approach.

  1. Provision an AWS customer VPC focused on cost optimization, right-sizing and network security.

  2. Select m6i EC2 instance family for the SAP Router (SAP-certified for general purpose).

  3. Provision a Network Load Balancer (NLB) to be the internet-facing endpoint for the SAP Router.

  4. Connect to SAP RISE AWS VPC through VPC peering for availability and scalability; route traffic via routing table.

  5. Transfer the domain to Route53 in the customer account.

  6. Host the customer website on AWS Lightsail and secure it with an SSL certificate.
